Use Them or Lose Them!

November 2, 2015

As we approach the end of 2015, there are five reasons you should schedule any outstanding treatment or second cleanings for the calendar year! Check out the reasons below and contact us right away to schedule – December is a very busy month for everyone and schedules fill up fast so don’t wait until the last minute!

1. Yearly Maximum
The yearly maximum is the most money that the dental insurance company will pay for your dental work within one full year. This amount varies by insurance company, but the average is around $100 per year, per person. They yearly maximum renews every year on January 1st, if your plan is on a calendar year. If you have unused benefits, these will not rollover.

2. Deductible
The deductible is the amount of money that you must pay before your insurance company will pay for any services. This fee varies from one plan to another and could be higher if you choose an out-of-network dentist. The average deductible for a dental insurance plan is usually between $25 and $100 per year. Your deductible also starts again when your plan benefits rollover, which is January 1st for most policies.

3. Premiums
If you are paying your dental insurance premium on a monthly basis, you should be using the dental benefits made available to you. Even if you don’t need any dental treatment, you should be getting dental check ups and cleanings every six months to help prevent and detect any early signs of cavities, gums disease or other dental problems.

4. Fee Increase
Insurance companies will often re-evaluate fees and raise them at the start of a new year. This will cause your patient portion to increase along with the new fees.

5. Dental Problems Can Worsen

By delaying dental treatment, you are not only risking more expensive treatment, but more extensive and sometimes painful treatment that is now necessary to correct the problem. A small cavity could lead to a much bigger and more expensive procedure if left untreated.
